HUNTINGTON - Another new year is about to take place with firecrackers, dancing, ancestor worship and more Chinese New Year begins Thursday, Feb. 19, and ends Thursday, March 5. This year, 2015, is the Year of the Goat also known as the year of the sheep Happy Chinese New Year! According to ancient legend, a fearsome beast called Nian (which also means “year” in Mandarin) terrorized the lands and villages of the Chinese people at the end of each year. He was said to eat a whole group of children in a Happy Chinese New Year! You don’t have to go to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate your New Year’s, you can always have a get together and cook your own Chinese dishes, with delicious ingredients from May’s Hawaii!
